When sprayed into wall cavities, floors, ceilings, basements, or any other area that requires insulating, the two component mixture begins to expand at an amazing rate of 110 to 1. Icynene® is completely Hydrophobic: that is, Icynene® will not absorb or wick water. In fact, if you were to pour a glass of water over a piece of Icynene®, 99% of it would flow through the foam and spill to the floor.

If leakage should occur due to poor roof construction or inferior drainage planes, water will flow right through the Icynene® material, immediately alerting the inhabitants of the leakage problem and its location. A main concern of other insulation products is that once wet they can stay wet for long periods of time, providing ample nourishment for mold.

Water-infiltration will not affect the performance of Icynene®. Once wet, it is able to dry out quickly and safely. Water infiltration can create mold growth on other insulation products, but because Icynene® is not a source of food, this problem is eliminated.
